Show All Answers
1.
What is the purpose of conducting a citizen's police academy?
The purpose of conducting a citizen's police academy is to give the public a working knowledge and understanding of the Police Department’s policies and procedures and the local criminal justice system, through a series of classes involving instruction by police officers.
2.
Where did the concept of a citizen's police academy originate?
Orlando, Florida was the first U.S. city to conduct a citizen's police academy in 1984. It now serves as the prototype for other citizen's police academies across the United States.
3.
In what way will a citizen's police academy improve police-community relations?
We feel that the more information the public has about the Police Department, the more understanding, communication, and trust will exist between the community and the Police Department.
